THE ISLAND OF OKINAWA-
JAPAN
In ancient budo history "the island of Okinawa"
has been acknowledged throughout the world and
recorded as the "birth
place" and the sanctuary of the traditional
Karate Do. Originally known as "Tode" it's history
profoundly forged in Fujian China, therefore the traditional skills
and philosophies were passed down to the Ryu Kyuan people, by the
Chinese Masters.
The Oceania Hombu
dojo is beautifully located in the scenic township of Mount Beauty, situated in the Victorian Alpine
Region of Australia.
At the Hombu, Dojo
Garry
O'Connor Hanshi - Kudan, conducts formal instruction in the classic
art of budo,
sharing with his students 50 years of continuous traditional training and lineage, which he
has attained from his Japanese - Okinawan
Bujutsu masters, indeed the traditional budo teachings and
philosophies shared,
are a immeasurable gift from traditional budo history.
Our traditional classes mirror respect and dedication to the time
honoured principles of traditional karate-do, our
Ryu ( school ) polishes and upholds the philosophies of the original masters and founders. Hanshi
shares with his denshi a high level of disciplined skill, humility and the
spiritual essence of traditional budo, focusing on maintaining
the integrity of the art and the integrity of the practitioner.
"Without a
doubt," there is no substitute for
dedicated and meaningful training, therefore within our traditional classes, students amplify a strong budo spirit,
and presence through their code of conduct, traditional martial
artists refer to this code as
"Reishiki," a most profound code of honor,
originating from the spiritual culture
and teachings / principals of the Japanese - Okinawan Budo Masters.
Formal Karate Do classes are conducted two nights a week,
with additional training available for all registered
students who wish to deepen and further their budo studies.
Class sizes are
orderly and well structured. During the year there are three
selective student intakes for new members
wishing to join our traditional classes.
