THE MEANING OF DOJO KUN

By
Hanshi
Garry O'Connor
Our traditional “Dojo Kun”
indeed is the “Oath,” of our Ryu which mirrors the budo etiquettes
of past and present budo masters. The Dojo Kun reminds us that all actions in traditional budo always begins and ends
by amplifying courtesy and respect.
We commence and bring
to a close each training session, by reaffirming our "Dojo Kun"
in a unified voice;
this is a personal and a sincere spiritual commitment to our
budo art and teachers. We display our
true self in the way that we behave towards each other,
therefore our
traditional Dojo Kun reminds us of how we should strive to
display
the utmost courtesy and respect.
The traditional Dojo Kun also
reminds us of the time honoured principles of our Budo
study which has been unselfishly passed down to us by our traditional
masters, therefore we should always be mindful to carry within us, the guiding principals of our
“Traditional Dojo Kun.”
